ABOUT BAUMEISTER LOWLINE STUD

Baumeister Lowlines is nestled in the beautiful Ahuroa, between Puhoi, Warkworth, and the Kaipara. On our 30-acre piece of paradise, we breed Lowlines renowned for their placid natures, beauty, and excellent steaks. Our passion for the essential braai (barbecue) has led us on many adventures in our quest to keep our family's meat hormone-free and of top quality. Since settling on our lifestyle block in March 2016, we've been balancing our learning journey with our 9-to-5 jobs.

Our journey began with our neighbors, Rancho Radiata, where we first encountered the Lowlines. Intrigued, we delved into research on this remarkable breed. While Angus is widely known for producing good steak, what sets Lowlines apart is their compact frame coupled with 100% Angus genetics, enabling them to yield more beef per acre than standard-sized cattle.

With our sights set on this new venture, we acquired our first three Lowline ladies, Maggie, Mel, and Milly, from Rancho Radiata in 2017. And here we are today.

The versatility of this breed makes it the ideal choice for commercial farming, use in agricultural programs at schools and for lifestyle farmers. Some of the attributes and traits for which the breed is renowned are:

  • the beef is of excellent quality — well-marbled, tender and flavoursome with a beautiful texture
  • compact frames being approximately 60% of the size of larger breeds, allowing more effective and efficient use of land
  • excellent feed efficiency
  • naturally polled, with particularly docile temperaments and are easy to manage
  • improve farm viability – you can run more animals per hectare and thus make more profit per hectare
  • low birth-weight calves – easy calving in heifers and cows of any breed
  • growing your own beef — Lowlines have moderate-framed carcases making them perfect for the family freezer
